GAME OVERVIEW:

MALDEN, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team split a doubleheader with the Northern Vermont-Lydon Hornets on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 3-1 and taking game two 9-4. The Lynx finish the day at 10-14 overall this year, while the Hornets settle at 2-13.

INSIDE GAME 1:

• Runs were at a premium in the first game of the day. The Hornets scored in the top of the first inning and then neither team got a run across again until the fifth. John Mahoney, the first batter of the game for the Hornets, reached on catcher's interference, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and eventually came around to score on a groundout by Skylar Bushey.
• The Lynx tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, though the wind took down a few hard-hit balls that could have put them ahead earlier. Colin McCarthy sent Adam Budorick home from first on a rocket down the right field line for a double.
• NVU took the lead in the top of the sixth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh, with Dylan Wilson scoring the go-ahead run on an error by Justin Dennett and Bushey sending Mahoney home with a base hit in the seventh.
• Despite taking the loss, Patrick Teasdale was tremendous for the Lynx. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out ten. Matt Page got the win for NVU, while Dale Ostermann earned a save with two scoreless relief innings.

INSIDE GAME 2:

• The second game began much like the first, as a low scoring affair. The Lynx took the early lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Ian Dempsey to score Andrew Gryniewicz. Bushey tied the game in the top of the third reaching on an error by Matthew Ceruti in right field that allowed TJ Santaw to score.
• The Lynx bats finally broke things open in the fourth inning, scoring eight runs and cycling through four NVU pitchers. Colby Jacobs, Ceruti (twice), Jordan Rowe, James Brandon, and Dylan Langson all picked up RBI in the inning. NVU added three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it was not enough for a comeback attempt.
• Jacob Nemergut picked up his third win of the season on a complete game effort, allowing four runs. The Lynx defense did a fine job helping get the win, as Nemergut only recorded two strikeouts.
