GAME OVERVIEW:

MELROSE, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team struggled in the field in a 5-4 loss to Dean College on Wednesday night. The Lynx fall to 9-11 overall this year, while the Bulldogs' first win brings them to 1-12 on the season.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• The fielding miscues started early for the Lynx, with the first batter of the game reaching and advancing on an error by Cal Caruso. Brian Dovidio would then come across to score on a base hit by Andrew Sullivan to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after an inning. The Lynx could not match them, despite having runners on second and third with no outs.
• Dean added two more runs in the second inning, again all unearned due to errors. Dylan Langston committed one on a groundball back to the mound that allowed Tommy Troy Jr. to reach base with one out. Dan Lilja later singled up the middle to score two runs and put his team up 3-0 early.
• The Lynx got their first run in the bottom of the second, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tyler Washington to drive in Andrew Gryniewicz. Neither team would score again until the fifth inning, when the Bulldogs snuck a fourth run in before the final out was recorded. After a leadoff double by Sullivan, Kyle Simpson reached on another error by Caruso that allowed all runners to advance. Simpson was thrown out at second on that advance attempt, but not before Sullivan came across to score Dean's fourth run.
• Lesley's next run again came without a hit, with the Lynx being held to only one through this point. Colin McCarthy drew a walk and was pinch-run for by Matt Ceruti. Washington then reached via HBP and both runners advanced on a series of wild pitches that eventually brought Ceruti home.
• Both teams were again shut out until the eighth inning, when the Bulldogs picked up a crucial insurance run on a sac fly by Dovidio. It proved incredibly necessary, as the Lynx finally put a few hits together in the bottom of the inning. With Justin Dennett and James Brandon reaching on base hits, Gryniewicz delivered a two-run triple to bring the Lynx within one run. They were unable to push the tying run across and were shut down in the ninth.
• Griffin Connelly earned the win for Dean after coming in and pitching 3.1 innings of relief. Langston took his third loss of the season, allowing four runs though none of them were earned.
