YORK, Pa. – In a season where the Lesley University baseball team captured its first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title and earning their first NCAA Tournament berth, it all came to a close Saturday afternoon. The Lynx fell to the second seed Shenandoah University Hornets, 4-1, in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

The Lynx conclude the season with a 22-19-1 record while the Hornets improve to 38-9.

Shenandoah got to sophomore southpaw Colin Reed early scoring twice in the bottom of the first. The Hornets were threatening to score more with runners at the corners but Lynx were able to minimize the damage due to solid defense from the middle infield. Reed induced a ground ball in the direction of sophomore shortstop Nicholas Ferragine. Ferragine tossed a bullet to second baseman Vincent Taliercio before throwing on to first to complete the inning ending double-play.

Lesley managed to get a run back two innings later in the top of the third. Ferragine began the inning pulling the first pitch he saw into leftfield before advancing into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. After scampering 90 feet on a wild pitch, Ferragine scored on a line-drive through the left-side of the infield by his double-play partner, Taliercio to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

Shenandoah got the run back in the bottom of the third against junior right-hander Tom Muratore, who came on in relief of Reed at the start of the third. The Hornets added an insurance run in the bottom fo the fifth to increase their lead to three, 4-1.

It was all they would need as Hornets starter Gerard DePhillips went the distance allowing just one run while scattering seven hits and striking out six.

Muratore pitched five strong innings of relief allowing two runs – one earned – on six hits while striking out four opposing batters. Junior right-hander J.P. Agiorgousis tossed a perfect eighth inning for the Lynx with one strikeout.
