Baseball Draws #2 Johns Hopkins In NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 2017 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champion Lesley University baseball team drew Centennial Conference Champion, Johns Hopkins University in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, announced early Monday morning. The Lynx will face the Blue Jays on Thursday afternoon May 18th at 1:15 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park in York, Pa. 

Making their first trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament, the Lynx concluded the 2017 season with a 21-17-1 overall record which included a 9-9 conference record under NECC Coach of the Year Billy Cather. In the NECC post-season, they upset host and defending Mitchell College with a 5-4 victory on the first day of the tournament before moving onto the championship following a 3-2 win over Elms College.

On the championship Monday, lone senior Mike Slaby (Foxborough, Mass.) gave the Lynx their first conference title launching a walk-off grand-slam in the bottom of the ninth for the 10-6 victory.

The Lynx will face a formidable opponent in Johns Hopkins, who is making their 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance including their 16th Mid-Atlantic Regional. Johns Hopkins is a 38-29 all-time regional competition with three regional titles to their credit. The Blue Jays finished the season with a 36-6 overall record and a 17-1 record against Centennial Conference opponents. Their lone conference loss came to Muhlenberg College on April 8th falling to the Mules 6-4 in the first game of the double-header.
