Westfield State Cruises Past Baseball in Florida Finale

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Lesley University wrapped up their 2016 RussMatt Invitational trip with an 18-0 loss to Westfield State University today at the Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla. The Lynx will return north with a 3-7 overall record while the Owls improve to 5-6 on the season with the win.

Westfield, winners of three of their last four, pounded out 14 hits and took advantage of six free passes from Lesley pitching to cruise to the victory.

After going down in order in the bottom of the first, the Owls posted crooked numbers in the next four innings including three in the second, seven in the third, two in the fourth, and six in the fifth.

Freshman Anthony Crowley (Bellingham, Mass.) led the offense for the Owls with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI and four runs scored. Senior Connor Sheridan (South Hadley, Mass.) finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and five RBI.

Junior hurler Nick Cunningham (Ashland, Mass.) limited the Lynx offense to just a pair of hits over five innings while striking out two.

Lynx freshman Matt Bavaro (Sayville, N.Y.) and junior J.P. Agiorousis (Hanscom, Mass.) each finished 1-for-3 for Lesley.

Lesley will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they travel to Gordon College for a non-conference tilt at 3:30p.
