Baseball Falls to St. Mike's in Southern Trip Finale

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Lesley University wrapped up their annual trip to the RussMatt Invitational this afternoon as they fell 13-1 to NCAA Division II program St. Michael's College at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.

The Lynx finish their trip and return back to Cambridge sporting a 3-6 record. Of the six losses, three of them came in extra innings while three were decided by two runs or less. The three victories ties the program record for most RussMatt Invite wins in their four years of traveling south.

Lesley's offense was hot throughout the week as they hit a collective .348 and recorded ten or more hits in seven of the nine games.

A trio of Purple Knight pitchers were able to quiet the Lesley bats, however, as the Lynx were held to just one run and four hits. St. Michael's starter Zack Lanzillo earned the win going four innings, yielding just three hits and three walks while striking out six.

Barry Maily and Colin Brennan teamed up to throw three innings of one-hit relief for the Purple Knights to secure their second straight win.

Lesley's lone run came in the top of the fourth inning when freshman Nick Iadevaio (Mineola, N.Y.) knocked in senior Tyler Plourd (Canton, Conn.) who reached on a walk.

Iadevaio finished 1-for-2 on the day while Gustavo Polidor (Caracas, Venezuela), Joe Muratore (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), and John Gosnell (Toronto, Ont.) also accounted for hits for the Lynx.

Freshman Jeff Heinz (Portsmouth, N.H.) pitched three strong innings of relief as he allowed just one run on one hit while striking out three.

The Lynx are slated to be right back in action as they will host a doubleheader against Newbury College in New England Collegiate Conference action at Trinity Stadium in Haverhill, Mass. First pitch is slated for 6:00p.
