LAKELAND, Fla. – After falling behind early, trailing 6-1 in the fourth inning, the Lynx clawed all the way back scoring seven unanswered runs, knocking a program record 16 hits, to claim an 8-6 win over Medaille College this morning at Teleroc High School in Lakeland, Fla. Lesley improves to 2-3 on the season while Medaille falls to 1-3.

Lynx starter Ryan Genua (Prospect, Conn.) went seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three Maverick batters. Junior Kevin Hopwood (Winter Haven, Fla.) came in and retired six of the final seven batters, earning his first save of the season.  

Medaille took advantage of some early miscues and got some timely hitting in the early parts of the game as they tallied two runs in each the first, third, and fourth innings. The top of the Mavericks lineup did most of the damage as the trio of Jake Tyno (Amherst, N.Y.), Korey Hagan (Grand Island, N.Y.), and T.J. Serba (Tonawanda, N.Y.) went a combined 5-for-15 with five runs scored and two RBI.

After giving up back-to-back singles in the top of the fifth, Genua forced a double-play to get out of the inning unscathed. Those would be the final two hits he allowed in the rest of his outing as he finished up retiring six of his final seven batters.

Lesley got their offense in gear in the bottom half of the fourth when sophomore catcher David Hersey (Wolfeboro, N.H.) ripped a single up the middle, scoring classmate Ray Cohen (Coventry, Conn.) who reached base after getting his in the leg. Ryan McQuade (Rochester, N.H.) and Robert Parson (Commack, N.Y.) followed Hersey with singles of their own to load the bases with one out. With two outs in the inning junior outfielder Tyler Plourd (Canton, Conn.) placed a double down the left field line, bringing in McQuade and Parson, cutting the Mavericks lead to 6-4.

The Lynx got one more in the fifth as Matt Gianoni (Berlin, Conn.) and Cohen both connected for doubles, making it a one run game.

In the sixth, Plourd tied the game when he came around to score on an error and sophomore John Gosnell (Toronto, Canada) gave the Lynx the lead for good when he lined a double to left center field, knocking in two runs.

Lesley would not surrender the lead as Hopwood shut the door in the eighth and ninth.  

Ciampi and Plourd led the Lynx with three hits a piece while Gianoni, Gosnell, and Cohen each collected two.

Sixteen hits are the most hits in a single game in program history. The previous record was 15 which was done twice last year in games versus Rivier and Norwich.
