Lynx Split Twin Bill with Chargers

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – March 10, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split a twin bill with Lesley at the Chain of Lakes baseball complex on Sunday. Lesley took game one 4-1, while Colby-Sawyer won the second game 1-0. The Chargers go to 3-1 on the season, while Lesley's record goes to 1-3.

GAME ONE – Lesley 4, Colby-Sawyer 1

Kevin Hopwood gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a run scoring ground out. The next batter, John Gosnell, increased the lead with a two-run single to right field.

Colby-Sawyer was able to get one run back in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Rob Wallace.

Ray Cohen earned his first win of the season for Lesley after tossing a complete game. He gave up three hits and struck out six. Alex Drost threw a complete game and surrendered five hits in the loss.

GAME TWO – Colby-Sawyer 1, Lesley 0

Colby-Sawyer received a complete game shutout from senior pitcher Jordie Scheiner. He struck out five and only faced three batters over the minimum.

The Chargers scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Hitless through the first four innings, Colby-Sawyer received back to back hits by Vinny Monahan and TJ O'Connor. Monahan reached base after beating out an infield grounder. He then stole second before coming around to score on a single to center by O'Connor.

Lesley collected a hit in the sixth and the seventh, but Scheiner stranded the runners to secure the victory.

Colby-Sawyer plays Becker on Monday at 5:30 pm at the Lake of Myrtle complex.
