Hawks take pair from Lynx in final NECC doubleheader

LEICESTER, MA -- Becker topped Lesley 13-0 and 9-0 in both team's final doubleheader of the season on Saturday.

Peter Plansky went 1-for-3 in each game for the Lynx, which were held to a combined seven hits on the day by the Hawks stellar pitching.

Becker's Jeff Dilorenzo struck out seven and walked one in a Game 1 three-hitter, and Trenton Gibson allowed only four hits, striking out six and walking none in Game 2.

The Hawks scored in every inning of the opener, with a five-run fourth highlighted by a Weston Meehan two-run single and an Austin Phillips two-run double pushing the lead to 9-0. Phillips went 2-for-4 with two RBI's as Becker cruised, 13-0.

A four-run second capped by a two-out, two-run Todd Tompkins home run upped the Hawks lead to 5-0 in Game 2, providing Gibson more than enough offense in his walk-free effort.

The Lynx threatened with an Aqib Shah triple to center with two outs in the fourth, but Plansky popped out to left field to strand him 90 feet away. A pair of singles from David Hersey and Patrick Melo in the fifth would be Lesley's only other baserunners, as the Hawks added three in the sixth for the 9-0 win.

The teams wrap up their regular season with a noon game at Trum Field tomorrow at noon. Lesley will honor seniors Plansky and Noah Shaw in a pregame ceremony. The Lynx Fan Van departs campus at 11:30 a.m. from the Jenkes House and is free to all members of the Lesley community.
