Six-run third zips Blazers past Lynx

CHICOPEE, MA -- Elms scored six runs in the third inning off Lynx starter Ray Cohen in the Blazers 8-2 win over visiting Lesley.

David Hersey singled and scored for the Lynx, but Blazers starter Ryan Burnette held the Lynx to two hits through eight innings and four hits in all, striking out 11 in the four-hitter.

Cohen's control, or lack thereof, cost him in the third, as four walks and a sacrifice fly made it a 2-0 game. A fifth walk of the inning reloaded the bases, and Felix Montalvo unloaded them with a three-RBI triple to left, with Montalvo coming around to score on an Andrew Cootware throwing error. On six walks and one hit in the frame, the Blazers went ahead 6-0, which was more than enough for Burnette.

Three singles and a sacrifice fly added two more for Elms in the sixth, and Lesley got on the board with a Peter Plansky two-run double in the ninth, Burnette's only major flaw as he coasted to the 8-2 victory.

For the Blazers, Montalvo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's.

Cohen allowed seven earned over his seven innings, and right-hander Joseph Santos came on for two scoreless innings of relief.

Lesley returns to play tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. against Mitchell College at Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT.
