Shah homers twice as Lions double up on Lynx

MALDEN, MA -- Lesley's Aqib Shah hit the first two home runs of his career in Lesley's 16-8 loss at Emerson Tuesday night in non-conference baseball play.

The junior went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI's, getting the Lynx on the board with a two-run shot in the first inning. Emerson responded with four runs in the first on a bases loaded double by Geoff Lopes to take a 4-2 lead, one that would hold until the sixth inning.

Lesley pulled within a run in the fourth on a two-run double by Tyler Plourd that made it a 5-4 game, but the Lions came back with two more in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-4.

Shah would give Lesley back the lead but briefly with his second home in the sixth. A two-run single from Plourd made it a 7-6 contest, and Shah's second homer then put the Lynx on top 8-7.

Emerson promptly answered with four in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back RBI singles from Cal Ciarcia and Drew Risk retook the lead for the Lions, which silenced the Lynx bats the rest of the way while tacking on two more in the seventh and three in the eighth for the 16-8 win.

Plourd went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI's for the Lynx, which also got a 2-for-3 day and two runs scored from Ray Cohen.

Noah Shaw suffered the loss for the Lynx, while Brendan Topp came out of the pen with 3 and 1/3 innings of one-run ball for the win for the Lions.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday at Albertus Magnus.
