Lynx breeze by Raiders 9-2 behind Anglin's 14 K's

SOMERVILLE, MA – Lesley University starting pitcher Greg Anglin (Milton, MA/Milton) went 8 and 1/3 innings, striking out a program-record 14 in the Lynx 9-2 win over Rivier College Thursday night at Trum Field.

Lesley smacked 15 hits, going up 6-0 after six, and Anglin held the Raiders to two hits on the night. John Gosnell (Toronto, ON/York) went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI's, and fellow freshman Ryan McQuade (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) tripled and scored twice.

The Lynx (4-16) loaded the bases with no outs in the third for designated hitter Ryan Genua (Prospect, CT/Woodland), who doubled home two to the wall in left-center. With second and third and still nobody out, Raiders (1-21) starter Artie Hoffman breezed through the heart of the Lynx order, freezing Tyler Plourd and Aqib Shah looking and striking out Peter Plansky swinging.

Lesley again put a runner on third with no outs an inning later, when McQuade led off with a triple to right-center and was promptly singled home by Gosnell. With two outs and Gosnell still on first, he scored on a Ray Cohen (Coventry, CT/Coventry) opposite-field double to left-center, doubling the Lesley lead to 4-0 after four.

Spotted a four-run lead, Anglin cruised through the middle innings, striking out five of six batters through the fifth and sixthinnings, including the side in order in the sixth, when Lesley tacked on even more in the bottom half. A Cohen sac fly with men at the corners and nobody down scored Joe Muratore (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck), and an infield hit from Plourd (Canton, CT/Canton) made it a 6-0 game after six.

Three more scored in the ninth on a Gosnell two-run double down the left field line and another on a Raiders error, with Lesley going on to win 9-2 after Rivier added two unearned in the bottom of the frame.

Anglin was dominant, fanning 14 – five looking – in his 8 and 1/3 innings of two-hit ball. He departed with one out in the ninth and a shutout in tact and has not allowed an earned run over his last 15 and 1/3 inning pitched, going 2-1 in his last three starts.

For the Raiders, Hoffman (Malden, MA/Mystic Valley) struck out nine in his six innings. At the plate, Kevin Weaver (Hudson, NH/Alverine) went 2-for-3 with and RBI.

Lesley returns to play tomorrow night against Norwich at Trum Field. For Lynx supporters, fan vans depart campus Lot B at 6:40 p.m. for Lesley's 7:00 non-conference first pitch against the Cadets.
