Eight home runs send Mariners sailing past Lynx

NEW LONDON, CT -- Mitchell College crushed eight home runs in its 32-7 victory over the Lynx in NECC baseball play Friday afternoon.

The Mariners started with five in the first and put up 11 in the sixth and seven in the seventh before Peter Plansky came on for two scoreless innings of relief work in the eighth and ninth.

For Lesley, catcher Jeff Gonzalez went 2-for-4, freshman Ryan Genua went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and leadoff hitter Greg Anglin went 1-for-4 and scored twice.

While an astonishing six Mariners collected four or more hits a piece, the top half of the Lesley lineup didn't leave Connecticut quietly. The Lynx No. 1 through No. 5 hitters - Anglin, Genua, Aqib Shah, Gonzalez and Plansky - went a combined 8-for-20 (.400) with three RBIs and six runs scored.

Lesley opens up its final series of 2011 with a home doubleheader tomorrow at noon at Trum Field against Becker College.
