Strong Start for Women's Cross Country

BOSTON, Mass. – Women's Cross Country opened up their season with a strong performance at the Fifth Annual Fens Classic hosted by Emmanuel College this morning. The 2-mile course was run through the Fens area in Boston's Back Bay and finished at Roberto Clemente Park. The Lynx earned 152 points on the day, earning them a fifth place.

Lesley sophomore Elena Pereira (Wilmington, Vt.) paced the Lynx with a time of 13:50, coming in just one second before freshman Abbey Coppinger (Moultonborough, N.H.).

Sophomores Michelle Goldberg (Hauppage, N.Y.) and Rachel Asam (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) followed up for the Lynx, finishing in 15:00 and 15:02, respectively. Freshman Sydney Altschuler (Durham, Conn.) finished her first collegiate race with a time of 15:11.

Junior Caroline McCormack (Pembroke, Mass.) crossed the line in 15:25 while classmate Meg Lander (Ossippee, N.H.) came in at 15:36.

Wheaton College gained the top spot in the event as they had the first three runners cross the line first and earned just 29 points. Host Emmanuel College grabbed second place with 40 points.
