Lynx Sweep Wildcats in NECC Matchup

CAMBRIDGE,Mass.---The Lynx had Nicholas Athletic Center on their feet as they swept the Wildcats, 3-0. Bay Path falls to 6-9 overall and winless in the conference. Lesley improves to 7-12 overall and undefeated in conference action, 2-0.

Kaylee Deluga (Harvard, Mass.) led the Lynx in kills tallying 11 of the team's 28 total. Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) earned a game-high five service aces. Cassidy Wygonik (Madison, Conn.) also collected seven kills on the day for the Lynx. Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) led the Wildcats in two categories. Vallee tallied six kills and eight digs. Junior Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) ended the day with six digs of her own.

The Lynx struck first but it was the two service aces by Abruzzesse that kept the energy alive for the Lynx. Lesley went on 7-1 run resulting in a Wildcat timeout. Tallin Goldberg (Merrimack, N.H.) pushed the Lynx lead to 11-3. However, it was the six point run behind Ashley Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) that secured the 25-6 victory in set one.

Bay Path scored the first set point and it continued to be a back and fourth battle between both teams. Lesley lead 15-9 when the Wildcats were forced to call their lone timeout of the set. It was the efforts behind Deluga and Wygonik that led the Lynx to a 25-18 victory.

In the final set of the game, the Lynx came out to an early 3-0 lead before the Wildcats tied it up at 12 a piece. It was the joint efforts between Abbruzzese and Wygonik that helped extend the lead to four. Lesley would finish off the day by outscoring the Wildcats 13-10 for a 25-22 victory to result in a sweep.

"I think the team worked together fantastic today. We were loud, energetic, we had a lot of fun. Girls that don't normally get a lot of playing time crushed it" says Abbruzzese.

The Lynx return to action on Tuesday, October 10 as they travel to Pine Manor College as they take on the Gators. Match time set for 7:00 p.m.
