CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University freshman Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) finished with a match-high 12 kills to power the Lynx to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-22) sweep over Becker College this evening in New England Collegiate Conference action at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. Lesley stays perfect in the NECC, moving to 6-0 in conference matches, while they improve to 14-3 overall. With the setback, the Hawks fall to 3-3 in conference play and 7-19 on the season.

Abbruzzese was also strong with the serve as she connected for a match-high six assists. Lynx senior Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) chipped in with 10 kills and led the team with 18 digs on the defensive side. Junior setter Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) dished out 35 assists to set up the offense while classmate Melisa Randall (Fremont, Calif.) slammed down seven kills to go with her 15 kills. Freshman Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.) finished with seven kills and junior libero Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) dug out 15 balls on the defensive side.

Becker junior Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) paced the visitors attack with a team-best six kills to go with her 13 digs. Classmate Samantha Caouette (Montague, Mass.) added five kills for the Hawks while freshman Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) finished with three kills. Fellow freshman Chase Peterson (Redding, Conn.) led the Hawks with 18 digs and Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn.)  helped set up the offense with nine kills.

Leading 6-5 in the first set, the Lynx used an 11-1 to open up a 17-6 lead on their way to the 25-15 opening set win. Johnson paced Lesley's offense with five kills as she swung .500 in the set.

Following a Hadzewycz kill and a Lesley attacking error, the Hawks held a 10-8 edge in the second. Lesley then scored seven straight points and 12 of the next 14 to pull ahead 20-12 as they rolled to the 25-13 second set victory.

Becker led 8-6 early on in the third set, but once again the Lynx rallied for a 7-0 streak to open things up. Abbruzzese recorded five of her aces during the streak as the Lynx never trailed again as they completed the 3-0 sweep with the 25-22 win in the finale.

The Lynx will be back in action on Monday as they welcome Suffolk University to Cambridge at 8:00p while the Hawks will travel to Bay Path on Wednesday for an 8:00p start.
