Women's Volleyball Makes It A 3-0 Sweep Over Mitchell

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University cruised to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) sweep over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball matchup Saturday evening at Buckingham, Brown and Nichols.

The win served as a rebound over Thursday's 3-1 loss at Emmanuel College and improved the Lesley's overall record to 9-3 and 3-0 in the NECC. The loss dropped Mitchell's overall record to 4-12 and 0-2 in conference action.

The Lynx benefitted from an 11-0 run in the first set to push their advantage to 16-4, that included a career-high six service aces from junior setter Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif./Washington).

The second set was played a little tighter by both teams.  Leading 15-12, Lesley broke through with six unanswered points to help put the set out of reach for Mitchell.

The Lynx jumped out to a 3-1 lead in third set and never relinquished as they closed out the match on a 9-0 run as freshman outside hitter Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) led with four kills.

The Lynx finished the match going 37-for-85 on the floor with a .271 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Anni Abbruzzese (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) led all attackers in the match with nine kills and added 10 digs for Lesley.  Marden added 30 digs along with a career-high six service aces.

Freshman middle blocker Myia Williams (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic) led the Mariners with five kills while junior setter Nicole Caminiti (Massapequa Park,  N.Y./Churchill School and Center) added 12 assists.  Junior libero Kaisea Caramante (Old Lyme, Conn./E.C. Goodwin Technical) led her team with 11 defensive digs.

Lesley returns to the court on October 16 and will host Eastern Nazarene College for an 8 p.m. start.
