Women's Volleyball Splits at Wentworth Tri-Match

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team continued their torrid start to the 2014 season and split a pair of matches this afternoon in a tri-match with Wentworth Institute of Technology and Worcester State University. The Lynx swept the Leopards 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21) in the day's first match while their five-match win streak was snapped by the Lancers in the second match of the afternoon, 3-1 (25-15, 15-25, 10-25, 25-27). With the split, Lesley moves to 5-2 on the season, their best start since the 2006 season.

Freshman Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) carried the Lesley offense with match-high 11 kills. Junior Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) registered a season-best 20 digs to anchor the defense while junior Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) doled out a career-high 27 assists to go with her 11 digs.

Junior Hannah Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Sydney Meyers (Arnold, Md.) paced the Leopards attack as they each registered seven kills while Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.) chipped in with four digs. Senior Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 16 digs.

In the second match of the afternoon, the Lynx won the opening set 25-15, before the Lancers stormed back and swept the next three.

Freshman Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.) set a career-high with a match-best 14 kills while hitting a solid Abbruzzese had five of her own while she was also credited with 13 digs. McDonald again finished with 20 digs while Marden recorded her second double-double of the day with 14 digs and 22 assists.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, Mass.) led the Lancers with nine kills to go with her 12 digs while Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, Mass.) and Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, Mass.) each finished five kills. Junior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, Mass.) led all players with 25 digs.

The Lynx return to action on Wednesday, September 24th when they head to Anna Maria College for a 7:00p start.
