Women's Volleyball Soars Over Hawks

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lesley University Women's Volleyball team pushed past the Becker College Hawks with a 3-0 sweep (28-26, 25-12, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at Leicester Gymnasium. With the win, the Lynx improve to 5-1 in conference play and 9-13 overall while the Hawks fall to 3-19 on the year and 0-6 in the NECC.

Leading the way for Lesley was senior Katrina Stroganoff (Cedar Grove, N.J.), who notched double-digit kills for the fourth consecutive game, knocking down a match-high 17 while sophomore Jessie Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped in with ten kills of her own. Junior setter Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) led all players with 35 assists.

On the other side of the court, first year Bethany Stone (Norwich, Conn.), senior Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.), and senior Angela Jankowski (Webster, Mass.) recorded eight kills apiece to pace the Hawks attack. Junior Lauren LaVallee (Millbury, Mass.) dished out 21 assists on the afternoon for the while Stone also led the team with 18 digs.

The Lynx hit .188 from the floor and amassed 11 serving aces, including five from sophomore Katey Carew (Salem, N.H.) and two each from Reynolds and Johnson. Sophomore Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) led the Lynx defense with 18 digs from her libero spot. Freshman Vanessa Smith (Somersworth, N.H.) buried six kills in the winning effort.

Lesley will travel to UMass-Dartmouth on Monday October 21st for a non-conference matchup at 7:00p. Becker will also be back in action on Monday when they make the trip to Mass. Maritime at 7:00p.
