Women's Volleyball Rolls to Sweep Over Bay Path

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University senior Katirna Stroganoff (Cedar Grove, N.J.) powered the Lesley University women's volleyball offense, finishing with ten kills, as the Lynx rolled to a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) over the Bay Path College Wildcats in New England Collegiate Conference action this afternoon at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. With the win, Lesley snapped a four-game losing streak and improves to 7-12 on the year and 3-1 in NECC play while Bay Path sees their two-game win streak come to an end and fall to 3-18 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Sophomore Jessie Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Vanessa Smith (Somersworth, N.H.) both chipped in with six kills for the Lynx while sophomore Danielle McDonald (Litlitz, Pa.) had a match-high 27 digs. Junior setter Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) led all players with 20 assists.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was senior Kate Bartels (Dalton, Mass.) and sophomore Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) who finished with seven kills apiece. Bartels also led the visitors with 19 digs while junior Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) dug out 18 on the defensive side. Freshman setter Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) dished out 17 assists.

After trailing 5-2 early in the opening set, the Lynx scored six straight to gain a lead they would not relinquish. McDonald would serve three consecutive aces before a Stroganoff kill capped the run.  Lesley would extend to their biggest lead of the set, 18-10, before finishing the set 25-18.

In the second set, the Wildcats took advantage of some early Lynx miscues to grab a 9-5 edge. Lesley would bounce back once again, this time rolling out eight straight points to regain a 13-9 advantage. Reynolds paced the run, knocking down two kills, while Stroganoff and junior Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) each had one. Bay Path eventually cut the lead to three, 17-14, before the Lynx scored eight of the final nine points to roll to a 25-15 second set win.

Lesley continued their momentum racing out to an 18-10 lead in the third, but this time Bay Path went on a run of their own.  The Wildcats would score 10 of the next 12 points to cut the Lynx lead to two, 22-20, before Lesley ended the set – and the match – on a 3-0 run.

Both teams will be back in NECC action on Tuesday, October 15 as Lesley will play host to Newbury College at 8:00p while Bay Path will welcome Mitchell College for a 7:00p start.
