Women's Volleyball Splits at Tri Match

QUINCY, Mass.- The Lesley University women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference mathces Saturday, topping Mitchell College 3-1 and falling to Eastern Nazarene College 0-3 at a tri-match hosted by the Lions. The Lions, who went 2-0 on the day, improve to 7-7 on the season while the Lynx move to 3-6 overall and the Mariners fall to 1-7.

Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) led Eastern Nazarene with 19 kills, 15 digs and eight service aces on the day. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with 12 kills and nine digs for the Lions in the tri-match. Leann Williams (Oxford, Pa.) and Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) each posted eight kills for the hosts.

Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) doled out 44 assists in the two victories and Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) notched 13 digs.

Katrina Stroganoff (Cedar Grove, N.J.) paced Lesley with 19 kills and 24 digs while Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) added 17 kills and 17 digs. Vanessa Smith (Somersworth, N.H.) tallied 11 kills for the Lynx while Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) recorded 38 assists.

Mitchell was led by Gloria Charles with 17 kills and 32 digs while Amanda Garcia posted 11 kills on the day. Kaisea Caramante finished with 16 digs while Barbara Fontes and Jessica Ware registered 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Nicole Caminiti turned in 25 assists on the day for the Mariners.

Eastern Nazarene prevailed 25-18 in the opening set against Lesley. The Lions grabbed a two-set lead with a 25-21 win in the second frame. The home side closed out the win with a 25-16 decision in the third.

Against Mitchell, Eastern Nazarene opened the match with a 25-18 win in the first game. The Lions rattled off a 25-9 victory in the second before capturing a 25-11 decision in the third to earn the sweep.

In the middle match of the afternoon, Lesley edged Mitchell in the first set 26-24 and earned a 25-17 win in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Mariners fought back to claim the third set 25-20 but the Lynx responded with a 25-8 decision in the fourth to secure the win.

The Lynx are back on the court on Monday when they host Anna Maria College at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The match is set to start at 8:00p.
