St. Joseph's Trip Up Women's Volleyball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team used set scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-23 to take a 3-0 sweep over Lesley University in a non-conference tilt tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Monks, who are winners of six of their last seven, improve to 8-2 on the year while the Lynx fall to 2-5.

St. Joseph's sophomore Felicia Wochowiak (Milton, N.H.) paced the Monks with six kills to go with her five digs while freshman setter Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Me.) dished out a team-high 18 assists and 11 digs.

Leading the Lynx was sophomore Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) who posted her second double-double of the season with a match-high ten kills to go with her 11 digs while sophomore Katey Carew (Salem, N.H.) had a match-high 15 digs. Junior Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) was credited with 26 kills and ten digs.

In the opening set, St. Joseph's held a 12-8 advantage before scoring ten of the next 16 points to push their lead to 22-14. From there, Lesley made a push scoring three in a row and five of the next seven, but it was too little too late as the Monks closed out the first set 25-19, getting the final point off a Lynx error.

The second set was all St. Joseph's as the Monks jumped out to a commanding 20-10 leading before closing out with a 25-16 decision.

Lesley jumped out to an early lead in the third as two McDonald kills helped push the Lynx advantage to 8-1. The Monks continued to chip away and finally grabbed their first lead of the set behind the serve of freshman Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) who had two aces in a stretch of four straight St. Joseph points to give the visitors a 17-16 lead. The teams would exchange points until Lesley took advantage of a St. Joseph's error to take a 23-22 edge, but the Monks would go on to score the final three points to close the set, 25-23, and the match 3-0.

Lesley will look to get back in the win column when they head to Eastern Nazarene for a tri-match with the Lions and Mitchell College.
