Women's Volleyball Drops Two in Tri-Match

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team fell to both Emerson College and Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon in a tri-match hosted by the Lions. With the pair of losses, the Lynx fall to 1-4 on the season. Emerson, who finished 2-0 on the day, improves to 6-3 while Wentworth, who split their matches 1-1, moves to 5-4.

Emerson swept Lesley in the day's first match with game scores of 25-7, 25-18, and 25-15. Lesley senior Katrina Stroganoff (Cedar Grove, N.J.) led the Lynx with a team-high nine kills and tied for the team lead with six digs. Sophomore Jessie Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) also finished with six digs while senior Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) had a team-high 16 assists to go with her five digs.

Emerson freshman Elizabeth Reid (Charlottesville, Va.) had a big day for the Lions as she hit .706 on her way to 12 kills while juniors Alex Lynn (Willington, Fla.) and Kat Rice (Delmar, N.Y.) each finished with five kills in the win.

In the second match of the afternoon, Lesley took the first set before Wentworth stormed back to take the next three hard fought sets consecutively. The match ended with set scores of 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19.

Lynx sophomore Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) finished with a match-high 11 kills, six aces, and a team-high 21 digs while Stroganoff had another strong effort as she buried nine kills and finished with 16 kills. Sophomore Katey Carew (Salem, N.H.) had a career-high 19 digs in the loss while junior Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) was credited with two total blocks to go with her five kills.

For the Leopards, junior setter Shannon Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) had a match-high 24 assists while classmate Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) finished with a match-high 24 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Hanna Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.) had a team-high eight kills for the Leopards.

Lesley will return to the court and look to get back in the win column when they play host to Mount Ida College on Monday, September 16th at 8:00p.
