Lady Lynx split Maine volleyball trimatch

CASTINE, Maine - The Lesley University women's volleyball team kicked off their 2009 season by splitting a tri-match with host Maine Maritime Academy and UMaine-Machias.  The Lynx were defeated in the opener by Maine Maritime 3-0, but responded with an impressive victory over Machias 3-0. 

Match One vs. Maine Maritime Academy

Meaghan Chadwick (CHELMSFORD, Mass./Chelmsford) led her team with eight kills on 14 total attacks for a 0.429 clip but it was not enough to beat the Mariners.  Chadwick also tallied six digs in the match.

Lady Mariners sophomore transfer Chelsea Ward (HOMER, Alaska) led her squad with 14 kills on 28 attempts and setter Jennifer Dixon (WOODSTOCK, Md.) recorded 17 set assists.  Lauren Sakahara (BELLEVUE, Wash.) tallied a match-high 17 digs as libero.

Lesley freshman Kaitlyn Miller (LEESPORT, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) had a match-high 21 assists in the loss.

Match Two vs. UMaine-Machias

Amanda McCracken (ELDERSBURG, Md./Liberty) was extremely efficient with nine kills on just 11 attempts to go along with six aces while Lindsey Marek (KILLINGWORTH, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) added nine kills of her own. 

Brenda Wilson (BRISTOL, Conn./Bristol Eastern) led the Lynx with 14 set assists.

For Machias, Amber Frey (AIRVILLE, Pa.) led her team with three kills and three digs. 

The 1-1 Lynx are back in action at home on September 9 against Lasell College at 7:30 pm.
