Leopards outlast Lynx, 5-4.

CAMBRIDGE, MASS– The Lesley University Women's Tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback against Wentworth on Wednesday night at the Nicholas Athletic Center in Cambridge, Mass.  With the loss, the Lynx now post a record of 2-6 on the season and Wentworth improves to 3-9.

No. 3 doubles, Sara Stanton (Manchester, Mass) and Rachel Mingingham (Hopedale, Mass) struck first for the Lynx with an 8-2 victory over Wentworth's Jasmine Andrade and Mckenzie Jones.  No. 1s, Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass) and Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass) extended the lead for the Lynx, with an 8-3 win over Caitlin Briggs and Sam Webb.  Wentworth's Ali Sollecito and Sam McGibbou edged Lesley's Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass) 8-5, to earn the last point of the doubles portion.  

Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, Wentworth managed to an early lead in singles action with wins by Veronica Monteiro and Caitlin Briggs.  Lesley's Pereira evened the score at three, with her come-from-behind win over Webb.  After losing the first set 4-6, Pereira displayed tremendous focus to win the next two sets 7-5, and 6-0.

With the score tied at three, Sollecito and McGibbon won consecutive points to secure the victory for Wentworth.  Lesley's Russo battled Wentworth's Jasmine Andrade for the final point resulting in a 5-4 final score.

Singles were the following: Kiddie vs. Sollecito (0-6), (7-6), (0-6).  Abbott vs. Briggs (0-6), (0-6). Pereira vs. Webb (4-6), (7-5), (6-0). Russo vs. Andrade (1-6), (7-6), (6-2). Stanton  vs. McGibbon (3-6), (3-6).  Tea Ryder (Gloucester, Mass) vs. Monteiro (1-6), (2-6).

For their next match, the Lynx will host Becker College on Saturday, October 7th at 1:00pm.  Wentworth will travel to Nichols on Friday, October 6th for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
