Women's Tennis Falls in Season Opener

CAMBRIDGE, MA- Lesley University Women's Tennis was blanked by Rhode Island College 9-0 on their opening night of the 2017 season. The Lynx faced a tough non-conference opponent in the Anchorwoman and got swept in the doubles to fall 0-3 to start the match.

Lynx Juniors Maddie Abbott and Jessica Russo started off the match in the No. 1 slot against Dayna Reilly and Emily Orticerio.  Senior Theresa Pereira and Freshman Rachel Mingingham competed in the second doubles match but fell 8-2 to Katherine Braganca and Laurel Ten Eyck.  Sophomores Sara Stanton and Tea Ryder closed out the doubles portion of the night falling to Victoria Vittori and Grace Zangari.

"It was a tough first match against an opponent we've recently added to our schedule," says head coach Shawna Sarson.  "The girls worked hard and showed a lot of energy that is one of our team's main goals this year... energy.  We'll continue to work and use this match as a way to get better and better," Sarson concluded.

The Lynx got swept in the singles matches to conclude the night.  Lesley returns to the courts Saturday September 9th when they travel to Saint Joseph's College (CT) for their second match of the season beginning at 12pm.
