Women's Tennis Advances to NECC Title Match with Sweep of Becker

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The second-seeded Lesley University women's tennis team has advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference Championship match for the third time in as many seasons as they blanked third-seed Becker College 9-0 in the NECC Semifinal match today at the Winchester Tennis Courts.

The Lynx will square off tomorrow with top-seeded Regis College for the third straight season in the title match. The Pride, who defeated fourth-seeded Bay Path University 9-0 on Saturday, is in search of their fifth straight conference championship. First serve for tomorrow's match is slated for 1:00p.

Lesley juniors Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) and Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) got the afternoon started with an 8-2 win over ­Becker senior Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and junior Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, N.H.) in the top doubles flight. Senior Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) and freshman Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) followed with an 8-2 triumph of their own at second doubles before sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) and junior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) retired Emily Wodell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Fiona Gilley (Worcester, Mass.) 8-3 in third doubles.

In singles action it was Kiddie who turned in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lord in the first match before Abbott downed Andrade 6-1, 6-3 in the second flight. Barker was victorious over Leger in third singles, 6-1, 6-3 while Pereira picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mahan in fourth singles.

Senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and Russo wrapped up the day with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 at fifth and sixth singles respectively. Today marks the third time this season that Lesley has defeated Becker after sweeping the regular season series.
