Women's Tennis Blanks Bay Path in Doubleheader Sweep

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University improved to 4-1 in New England Collegiate Conference play and 7-3 overall following a doubleheader sweep of Bay Path University this afternoon on the road at the Blinn Tennis Courts. The Lynx blanked the Wildcats 9-0 in each match of the day.

In the first match, juniors Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) kick-started the sweep with an 8-1 victory before sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) and freshman Sara Stanton (Manchester, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-0 triumph in the second doubles flight. Bay Path did not have a third team participate, so they Lynx earned a forfeit win to head into singles play with a 3-0 lead.

Kiddie kept the rout going with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in No. 1 singles while Pereira, Russo, and first year Tea Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) each earned 6-0, 6-0 straight set wins at second, third, and fourth singles. The Lynx earned forfeit victories in fifth and sixth singles to complete the 9-0 sweep.

Lesley shifted the lineup in the second match of the afternoon as freshman Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and senior Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) started things off with an 8-2 win in the top doubles match. Senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and junior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) followed with an 8-0 victory at second doubles.

Abbott, Barker, and Stanton each defeated their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores at first, second, and fourth singles, respectively, while Goggin downed Maryellis Pena 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.

The Lynx will face a quick turnaround and wrap up their regular season and celebrate Senior Night with a bout with Regis College tomorrow night at 7:30p.
