Women's Tennis Secures Season Sweep Over Becker

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University completed the season-sweep over Becker College with an 8-1 victory over the Hawks this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference play at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Lynx, who used a 9-0 score over Becker in Leicester back on September 21st, improve to 5-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The Hawks wrap up their regular season at 3-6 overall and finish their NECC slate at 2-4.

Lesley freshman Sara Stanton (Manchester, Mass.) and junior Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) got the Lynx started with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles over Hawks sophomore Jessica Leger (Auburn, Mass.) and junior Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.). Lynx first year Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and senior Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) followed with an 8-2 win at top doubles.

Becker would salvage a point in doubles when sophomore Emily Wodell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and freshman Fiona Gilley (Worcester, Mass.) earned an 8-4 victory over Lesley junior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.).

Barker and De Leon would start the Lynx off on the right foot in singles play with 6-0, 6-0 straight set victories in the third and fourth flights, respectively. Kiddie clinched the match for the Lynx with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Lord in the top match. Abbot earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory in second singles.

Russo would prevail over Wodell in fifth singles 6-4, 6-1 before Goggin outlasted Gilley 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 in sixth singles.

Lesley will return to NECC action with a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Bay Path University. The first match is set to begin at 1:00p while the second match of the day will follow immediately after.
