Women's Tennis Blanked by Suffolk

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the final non-conference matchup of the season, the Lesley University women's tennis team fell to Suffolk University 9-0 tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 4-3 overall in 2016 while the Rams jump to 4-7 on the season.

The Lynx will return to New England Collegiate Conference play and joust for positioning for the NECC Tournament in their final four matches of the year. Lesley next will play host to Becker College this Saturday at 12:00p at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Lynx topped the Hawks by a 9-0 score in their first meeting of the season on September 21st.

Suffolk got the night started by capturing all three doubles matches before sweeping the Lynx throughout doubles play. Valentina Medina and Isabel Rathlev teamed up to top Lynx juniors Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) 8-2 in the top doubles match before senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) fell to Danlyn Medou and Elena Cisneros Garci 8-3 in second doubles. The Rams completed the doubles sweep when Christina Texidor and Jacquelyn Nakamura downed freshmen Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and Sara Stanton (Manchester, Mass.) 8-4.

Medina outlasted Kiddie 6-2, 6-1 in top singles while Eugenia Skorobogatov blanked Abbott 6-0, 6-0. Pereira dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Rathlev before Cisneros Garci used a straight set score of 6-1, 6-0 over De Leon. Nakamura earned a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Russo in the fifth flight and Texidor wrapped up the night by defeating junior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) 6-2, 6-4.
