Women's Tennis Picks Up Road Win at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team won for the fourth time in their last five matches following an 8-1 road win this evening at Anna Maria College. The win avenges a 7-2 defeat the Amcats handed the Lynx last season as the Lynx improve to 4-2 overall in 2016. Anna Maria falls to 0-6 on the season with the loss.

Lesley earned a pair of wins in the doubles portion of the match before sweeping through singles play to pick up the 8-1 decision.

Juniors Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) got the Lynx started with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles before senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) delivered an 8-0 victory at third doubles.

Kiddie would earn her second victory of the evening when she outlasted Jessica Gautieri 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 at the top singles while sophomore Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) bested Johanna Dean in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Pereira improved to 5-1 on the season at the No. 3 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Marissa Leonard before De Leon and Russo each earned 6-0, 6-0 victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. The Amcats would forfeit in No. 6 singles, giving the Lynx a sweep through singles play.

The Lynx will be off over the weekend and return to play against Suffolk at the Nicholas Athletics Center at 6:00p on Monday. Anna Maria will face a quick turnaround and travel to Bay Path University for a bout with the Wildcats at 3:30p.
