Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight With Win at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team strung together their third straight win, topping Becker College 8-1 in New England Collegiate Conference play this afternoon. The Lynx improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in NECC play with the win while the Hawks fall to 1-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference action.

Lesley's top doubles tandem of Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and senior Emma True(Lee, N.H.) cruised to an 8-3 victory over Becker sophomore Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.). Lynx senior Carissa Iverson(St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and sophomore Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) teamed up to take an 8-3 victory over Hawks junior Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsboro, Mass.) in the second doubles match. Lesley completed the sweep in the doubles portion of the match when senior Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) and junior Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Mass.) earned an 8-1 decision over Becker freshmen Dana Mahan(Manville, R.I.) and Jessica Guilbeault (Little Rock, Ark.).

In singles action, Kiddie improved to 7-1 on the year in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Lord. Becker registered their only victory of the afternoon when Andrade defeated Iverson 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) in the second singles flight.

True earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win over Smith in No. 3 singles before De Leon followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the fourth singles match. After dropping the first set in No. 5 singles, Lesley juniorVictoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) battled back to take the next two to top Mahan 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).

Skelton finished out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Guilbeault in the sixth and final singles match.

The Lynx will look to run their win streak to four when they travel to Regis College on Thursday, October 2nd. The Pride defeated the Lynx 5-4 in their first meeting of the season. The Hawks will also travel to Weston, Mass. for a match with the Pride on Monday, September 29th. First serve is set for 5:15p.
