Women's Tennis Win Streak Snapped by Regis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team saw their three-match win streak come to an end as Regis College topped the Lynx 6-3 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. Lesley falls to 3-2 on the year and open their conference play at 0-1 while Regis improves to 3-1 and a perfect 2-0 in NECC play.

Regis senior Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) earned the night's first win with an 8-2 victory in No. 3 doubles over Lesley juniors Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Mass.) and Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine).

Pride sophomore Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and freshman Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) followed with an 8-6 win in a back-and-forth second doubles match over seniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.). Rice and Kanarkiewicz jumped out to a 4-1 edge before True and Phelps battled back to take a 6-5 lead. The Pride rallied to score the next three points to take the 8-6 decision.

Lesley's  No. 1 tandem of freshman Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) recorded the lone doubles win for the hosts with an 8-6 decision over sophomore Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and junior Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.)

Kolb put the Pride on the board first in the singles portion of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lynx senior Meghann Toomajian (Nahant, Mass.) in the No. 6 match to give the Pride a 3-1 edge on the night.

True pulled the Lynx back to within one with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kanarkiewicz in the fourth flight before Kiddie pulled the match even with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10) triumph over Lord. Kiddie trailed 8-9 and was a point away from being defeated before rallying to win four of the next five points.

Lesley senior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) outlasted Rice in No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-6) to give the Lynx a brief 4-3 lead before Medeiros knotted the match back up at 4-4 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Barker in No. 3 singles.  

DiPace sealed the victory for the visiting Pride as she topped Bunker 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth singles match.

Both teams will return to NECC action tomorrow as the Lynx will travel to New London, Conn. for a battle with Mitchell College at 12:00p while the Pride will return home to host Bay Path College for a 1:00p start.
