Women's Tennis Picks Up First Win of 2014 at AMC

PAXTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team earned their first win of the 2014 campaign this evening with a 7-2 triumph over Anna Maria College in a non-conference matchup. The Lynx move to an even 1-1 on the season while the AMCATS fall to 0-1 in their season-opening match.

Lesley's No. 1 doubles tandem of Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) topped sophomore Jessica Gautieri (N. Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Nicole Zamira (Mashpee, Mass.) by an 8-3.

Anna Maria evened things up when senior Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) and junior Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) grabbed an 8-3 win over Lesley seniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) before the Lynx took the doubles portion of the match when senior Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) and Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Vt.) earned an 8-2 win over Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) and Marissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.).

Kiddie earned a win in a hard fought first singles match as she beat Gautieri 6-4, 5-7 (10-6) before Lesley senior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) followed with a victory in No. 2 singles over Goudreau. Iverson dropped the first set 2-6 before rallying 6-4 (10-8) to take the victory.

Barker topped Zamira 6-1, 6-2 in the third flight while sophomore Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) triumphed over Edelson 6-3, 6-2.

Mulcahy earned the lone win for the AMCATS in No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 over Bunker before True rounded out the night with a 6-1, 6-1 in the final singles match.

Lesley will return to the court and open up their home schedule on Wednesday, September 10th when they welcome Eastern Nazarene College to Cambridge for a 7:00p start. Anna Maria will also be back in action on Wednesday when travel to Worcester to square off with Clark at 5:00p.
