De Leon, Ciampa Honored by NECC

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After finishing up a strong rookie season, Lesley University freshman Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) has been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) First Team All-Conference Singles team. Classmate Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named to the NECC All-Tournament team after her win in second singles in the NECC Semifinals against Bay Path.

De Leon had a fantastic freshman campaign going 6-1 in conference singles play, primarily in the No. 4 slot, while also picking up four wins in doubles competition. The freshman put together two separate three-match winning streaks while also being bumped up to third singles at the end of the year.

Ciampa won a hard fought second singles match in Lesley's 5-4 loss to the Wildcats in the conference semifinals. After taking the first set in a tiebreak, the freshman topped Bay Path's Stephanie Morin 6-4 for the two-set sweep. Ciampa finished her year at 4-4 in conference singles matches.

Regis sophomore Abbie Wehr was named NECC Player of the Year while teammate Emily Rice was honored with the conference Rookie of the Year award after the Pride secured their second straight NECC title.
