Ciampa Leads Lynx to First NECC Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Lesley University women's tennis team earned their first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) win of the season rolling to a 9-0 win over Mitchell College today at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Lynx move to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in NECC play while the Mariners are still in search for their first victory of the season, falling to 0-4 on the year and 0-2 in the conference.

Lesley juniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) teamed up to take a tough first doubles match over Mitchell freshman Samantha Ryan (Quaker Hill, Conn.) and senior Chelsea Arpin (Killingly, Conn.), 8-6. Lynx sophomore Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Me.) and freshman Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) also had an 8-6 win in the second doubles flight, topping the Mitchell tandem of Jenny Groman (New Britain, Conn.) and Veyda McVey (Wallingford, Conn.). Lesley rounded out the doubles sweep as sophomore Kelly Watt (Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned an 8-0 victory in third doubles.

Ciampa continued her success from doubles and earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Mariners senior Carly Paterson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) in first singles. In No. 2 singles, Bunker held on for a first set 7-5 win and took the second set 6-4 to win in straight sets.

Lesley junior Meghann Toomajian (Nahant, Mass.) and McVey played a tough match in fifth singles. McVey grabbed a 6-4 first set win before Toomajian stormed back to win the next two, 6-0, 6-3.

True, De Leon, and freshman Kaitlin Parthum (Marblehead, Mass.) also posted victories in singles for the Lynx.

Lesley is back in conference action on Friday when they travel to Bay State College for a 3:30p start while Mitchell will play host to NECC foe Becker College on Wednesday.
