Eng Interviewed by Inside Science

Lesley University's men's and women's tennis head coach Doug Eng was recently interviewed by Chris Gorski of Inside Science and was quoted in two stories on the science and evolution of tennis athletes. Eng, who is part of the United States Tennis Association sports science committee, has expertise in technique, tennis training, and sport psychology.

From the article:

Eng said modern players are taking better care of themselves than ever, but that the intensification of the game may be putting more stress on the body. "On the men's tour, the rallies have gotten longer. They're using more force, but also have to stay out there much longer. It's like not trying to hit one home run in a baseball game, now you have to hit six home runs," he said.

"A 16-year-old today might train as much in the gym as a 30-year-old tour veteran did in 1979, because the game has become more athletic."
