Lynx Fall to No. 13 MIT, 5-1

GAME OVERVIEW: 

Cambridge, Mass.-- The No. 13 MIT women's soccer team defeated Lesley 5-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.  This was the Lynx first loss of the season after winning their first two matches. MIT improves to 2-1-1 on the year.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • MIT opened up the scoring in the 2nd minute of play when Junior Emily Berzolla found Sophia Struckman driving towards the net and shot the ball into the lower left corner for an early lead.
  • The engineers were able to net one more goal in the half when Grace Xiong blasted a shot from the 20-yard line. 
  • Despite the Lynx earning two corner kick opportunities they were only able to get one shot off in the half to MIT's six.
  • MIT opened the second half scoring two goals just 26 seconds apart in the 53rd minute for the 4-0 lead.  In the 70th minute the Engineers tacked on their fifth and final goal of the game.
  • The Lynx were able to get 4 shots off in the second half and took advantage of an Engineer foul in the box that forced a Lesley penalty kick.  Samantha Bessey executed the free kick in the 76th minute to net Lesley's lone goal of the night, and bring the final score to 5-1.
  • Lynx goalkeeper Jill Narby recorded 6 saves on 11 shots in net in the loss.
