Harbus, Straube, Bessey to Lead Lynx in 2018

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– Lesley University rising seniors Kyra Harbus ( Ventura, Calif.), McKenna Straube (Junction City, OR) and Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) have been selected as captains of the 2018 Women's Soccer team, as announced by head coach Paul Vasconcelos.The Lynx are coming off another successful season, one in which they were ranked in the top 10 in New England, won a 6th NECC Championship and made a 5th appearance in the NCAA tournament losing to eventual NCAA National Champions Williams 2-0.

"Each of these young ladies have had an incredible impact on our program and are committed to improving themselves, their teammates, and the program overall," said Vasconcelos. "Bessey will enter her second year as a captain and she learned so much this past year as a young leader on our team. McKenna and Kyra will serve as first-time captains and both make the players around them better. All three are young ladies that reflect our programs culture and want to take our team to new heights in 2018," concluded Vasconcelos.

Harbus, comes back for her 4th season in Cambridge after being a staple in the backline over her career. The southern California native has played in 63 matches for the Lynx. Last season she was voted in as a NECC All-Conference Second Team selection.

Straube, played in 21 matches last season and started 41 out of 62 career games played. She was a dominant force in the midfield, winning balls and became a vocal leader on the field. For her efforts, Straube was a Second Team All-NECC selection in 2017.

Bessey comes back for a 2nd year as captain after serving as a tri-captain in her junior year. Completing a solid junior season with 8 goals and an assist which also garnered her NECC Second Team honors. In her three seasons in Cambridge, Bessey has appeared in 63 games while scoring 26 goals and serving up seven assists.

Lesley University women's soccer aims to go for an eleventh straight winning season and its seventh NECC title.  The sqaud gears up for their spring season in a few weeks to start working towards their 2018 goals.
