Lesley Edges RIC, 3-1

Lesley Edges RIC, 3-1

The Lesley University Women's Soccer team hosted Rhode Island College in a non-conference match up at Edwards Field.  The Lynx honored the faculty of Lesley University before the match for their continued support of Lesley Athletics.

Lesley began to take control of the first 45 mins half way through and kept the pressure on the Anchormen's defense.  The Lynx forced 4 corners on Rhode Island College but were unable to capitalize.  The score was at a dead lock until freshman Maddy Deitrick (Burnet, TX) sent a ball in front of the net that deflected off an Anchormen defender and found junior Sam Ring (Thousand Oaks, CA) for the goal.

A couple of solid saves by senior goaltender Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, MA) kept the Lynx ahead.  Lesley was able add an insurance goal with 9 minutes to spare in the half when sophomore Katelyn Scott (Glendora, CA) chipped the ball to the back right corner of the post where junior Jordan Mitchell (Sanchse, TX) found the space for a one touch blast to the top of the net.

Lesley came out of the second half ready to put on the attack.  Freshman Julia Cohn (Farmington, CT) sent a long through ball to just outside the eighteen.  Junior Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, IL) out-hustled the defense and was able to beat the charging goalie to the ball and touch it past her for the easy finish on the open net.

Rhode Island College got on the board late in the second when they capitalized on a Lesley infraction and was granted a penalty kick.  Brittany DeGrooth hit the top left corner past the diving Donovan, for a final score of 3-1.

The Lynx outshot the Anchormen 10-4 and held the advantage in corners 7-2.  Lesley next hosts Brandeis University on Tuesday, October 3 at 8pm.  Rhode Island College travels to UMass Boston Saturday, September 30.
