Women's Soccer Opens Season With 6-0 Shutout
CAMBRIDGE, MASS- The Lesley University Women's Soccer team opened up the 2017 campaign with a 6-0 shutout against Eastern Nazarene College. The Lynx controlled most of the tempo the first half of the match scoring 3 goals in the first twenty-two minutes of play, and continued to put pressure on the Lions defense throughout the second half of the match netting 3 more goals.

Junior forward Xaelel Allen-Caballero kicked off the scoring for the Lynx in the 6th minute of play off a long through ball from Senior Karlie Rubin.  Rubin sent the ball from midfield that left Allen-Caballero on a breakaway netting the first goal of the contest.  The second goal of the game demonstrated excellent passing execution from Allen-Caballero for a one time strike from Junior Jordan Mitchell in the 18th minute.  Mitchell struck again on a perfect cross from Rubin just minutes later, for the third goal of the game in the 22nd minute.

"It was a great win," says head coach Vasconcelos.  "It was great to be out here competing against a really talented team, the girls didn't led up for a full ninety minutes."  The Lynx showed strong finishes from Senior Samantha Turnbull, Freshman Sam Ring, and Freshman Cynthia Ramos each netting goals in the second half of the match.  In the 52nd minute Junior Rachel Buckley sent a perfect ball off a corner kick and connected with Turnbull for the header into the goal.  Both Ring and Ramos recovered deflected shots by the Lions goalie to finish the scoring.

"We were really lucky to be able to sub a lot and use our bench tonight," continued Vasconcelos.  "We were able to get a lot of our players in the game tonight."  Lesley outshot the Lions 20-2, while also having a 10-3 edge on corner kicks.

The Lynx next host MIT Saturday September 2nd at 7pm.
