CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After advancing past Newbury College in the First Round of the New England Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament, the second-seeded Lesley University women's soccer team is set to battle third-seeded Regis College on Wednesday night in Semifinal action.
The Lynx and the Pride will battle for admission to the NECC Championship match where they will face the winner of the top-seed Elms College and fifth-seed Bay Path University.
Scouting Lesley
The Lynx outshot Newbury 26-0 in their First Round game and finally broke through in the 77th minute when junior Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) tucked a shot inside the left post to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) would follow with a marker of her own just three minutes later to add an insurance goal.
Rubin and Bessey, along with sophomore Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas), lead the Lynx offensive attack as they have combined to score 31 of Lesley's 61 goals on the season.
Scouting Regis
The third-seeded Pride overwhelmed sixth-seeded Becker and cruised to a 5-0 win last Saturday in First Round play. Freshman Rachel Kelly and junior Tais Salles each netted a pair of goals while freshman Noelle Garcia doled out a trio of assists to capture their first postseason win since 2014.
Kelly now has ten goals and five assists to lead the Pride offense while Salles has scored seven goals and dished out one assist. Fellow freshman Erin Filetti has added six goals and three helpers.
Rookie keeper Amanda Matias has a 7-5-1 record in 14 appearances on the season, keeping a 1.53 goals against average and .738 save percentage.
What's At Stake
The winner of Wednesday night's match will advance to the NECC Championship match and face the winner of Elms/Bay Path. The Lynx are aiming to qualify for the title-match for the ninth-straight season while the Pride look to return to the Finals for the first time since 2012.
