Explosive First Half Lifts Women's Soccer Over Mitchell
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Lesley University senior Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) scored twice in the first half to notch her first-career multi-goal game and lift the Lynx to a 5-0 win over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference affair today at Alumni Field.

Winners of four straight, the Lynx jump to 11-4-2 on the season and 6-1-0 in NECC matchups while the Mariners drop to 1-12-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the conference.

The Lynx (11-4-2 overall, 6-1-0 NECC) controlled the pace from start to finish and picked up their fourth straight win. Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) led the way with a pair of goals while Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) added a goal and an assist.

The two goals by Hopkins came 58-seconds apart in the opening moments of the contest. The first tally came off a centering pass from sophomore Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) in the eighth minute that found Hopkins near the far post for the finish. Less than a minute later she buried a header off a corner kick off the foot of classmate Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) to make it a 2-0 Lesley lead.

The Lynx continued to use the corner kick to their advantage, scoring twice more before the half on set pieces. Junior Maddy Kelly (San Jose, Calif.) scored on a shot off a corner that deflected off both Mitchell goalkeeper Jordan Lohneiss (West Hartford, Conn.) and the crossbar before being ruled a goal. Sophomore Rachel Buckley (San Diego, Calif.) later converted another successful header off a corner kick from fellow second year Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.).

Mitchell tacked on the final goal in the second half on a shot from the right side that Lohneiss got a piece of but couldn't keep out of the back of the net. The Lynx finished the game with a 46-0 edge in shots and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lohneiss limited the damage by making 16 saves for the Mariners. Lesley keeper Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) didn't face a shot en route to the shutout.

Mitchell will next play at Bay Path University on Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Lesley returns to action on Saturday at Newbury College at 4 p.m.
