Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Night with Win Over Wheelock

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University notched their third straight victory and improved to 5-1-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 9-0 Senior Night victory over Wheelock College tonight at Edward Field. The Lynx scored two goals in the first half and followed up with seven in the second to jump to 10-4-2 overall on the season.

Prior to the match, the team honored seniors Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.), Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas), and Tori Ramirez (Redwood City, Calif.) for all of their successes in a Lesley uniform. Over the course of four seasons, the Lynx have captured three consecutive NECC titles and gone a combined 62-16-3.

Bos fittingly opened the scoring on Senior Night. The senior received a cross from sophomore Xaelel Allen-Caballero (Henrietta, N.Y.) and buried a shot from six-yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the season for Bos while Allen-Caballero earned her second assist of the season.

Lesley pulled ahead 2-0 in the 40th minute when sophomore Sarah Pochobradsky (Rotterdam, N.Y.) settled a ball in the middle of the Wildcat box, kept a defender on her back, turned and fired for her third of the season.

Lesley stayed on the offensive attack in the second half. Sophomore Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) finished a play from a pair of seniors in the 47th minute. Bos sent a cross from the left side into the box that Ramirez flicked to Mitchel who was streaking in from the right side and buried a shot from six yards out. Mitchell would dish out a helper just three minutes later as she sent a cross to the middle and found classmate Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) to give the Lynx a 4-0. Mitchell and Bessey are tied for the team lead with eight goals.

The Lynx would continue the rout when sophomore Kyra Harbus (Ventura, Calif.) netted a penalty kick before freshman Holly Buschelman (Long Beach, Calif.) sandwiched a pair of goals around an Emily Paredes (Queens, N.Y.) marker. The trio all connected for the first goals of their collegiate careers.

Sophomore McKenna Straube (Junction City, Ore.) wrapped up the scoring for the hosts when she headed home a corner kick from Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.) in the 87th minute.

Lesley outshot Wheelock by a 23-3 margin and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) made one stop in the shutout for the Lynx while her counterpart Erin Rice (Windsor, Vt.) made seven saves for the Wildcats in the loss.

The Lynx will kickoff a three-game road trip this Wednesday night when they head to New London, Connecticut for a conference match with Mitchell College at 3:00p. The Wildcats will start a two-game homestand on Tuesday night when they play host to Regis College at 7:00p.
