CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's soccer team netted two goals in each half and earned a 4-0 shutout victory over Suffolk University in a non-conference bout this evening at Edward Field. The Lynx snap a two-game losing skid and jump to 5-3-2 overall while improving to a perfect 5-0-0 mark over the Rams since 2012. Suffolk slips to an even 4-4-0 with the loss.
Lynx sophomore Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) anchored the offense by scoring a pair of goals in the first half before freshman Hope Seasholes (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Samantha Turnbull (Holtsville, N.Y.) each added a marker in the second half.
Junior Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) set up Mitchell's first tally when she played a pass to the second year midfielder on the right side of the box. Mitchell took one touch and laced a shot inside the far left post to put the hosts up 1-0 in the tenth minute of play. Mitchell would strike against just seven minutes later when she crashed the box and knocked in a cross off the foot of senior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) for her fourth goal of the season.
The Lesley offense would keep rolling in the second as Seasholes would connect for her first goal of her collegiate career in the 58th minute. The rookie defender connected on a bouncing ball from the top right corner of the box that bounced off the outstretched hands of Suffolk freshman keeper Julia Fieldsend (Exter, N.H.) and into the side of the net to give the Lynx a three goal cushion.
Turnbull would knock in Lesley's fourth goal of the night when she headed home a corner kick from Rubin in the 76th minute. The marker was Turnbull's second of the season while Rubin earned her second assist of the evening.
The Lynx outshot the Rams by an 18-2 margin while having the only four corner kick chances on the night.
Suffolk freshmen Jordan Pettograsso (Charlotte, N.C.) and Fieldsend split time in net, making four and three saves, respectively. Lynx junior goalie Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) made one save while earning the win in 45-minutes of duty before giving way to freshman Brittley Gaan (Bellevue, Wash.) for the second half.
Lesley will return to the pitch and travel to Rhode Island College at 6:00p on Thursday while Suffolk will continue its four-game road trip on Wednesday at Johnson & Wales. Kickoff for that contest is slated for 7:00p.
