Babson Delivers Women's Soccer First Setback of the Season

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-0 victory over the Lesley University women's soccer team in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson moves to 1-1-1 on the year, while Lesley drops to 2-1-1.

Babson sophomores Jessica Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.), Emma Dineen (Hinsdale, Ill.) and first-year Maggie McCabe (Weston, Mass.) all scored for the Beavers, who also got an assist from senior Olivia Kerester (Chappaqua, N.Y.).

The Beavers broke through on Fernandes' second marker of the year in the 26th minute. McCabe made it 2-0 just 57 seconds before halftime with the first goal of her career. She collected a pass from Kerester just inside the box and took a touch before hitting a low shot past Lesley goalkeeper Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.).

Babson extended its lead just over 13 minutes into the second half when Dineen blasted a 35-yard free kick into the upper right corner for her first goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddison Gierschick (Hopkinton, Mass.) did not have to make a save in 45 minutes of action to earn her first win of the season, while classmate Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) turned away three shots in the second half for the Beavers.

Donovan made nine of her 13 saves in the second half for the Lynx.

Both teams will return to action on Sunday as the Beavers host Elms College at 1:00p while Lesley travels to Wellesley for a 12:00p kickoff.
