Second Half Surge Carries Women's Soccer Past Dean

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a scoreless first half, the Lesley University women's soccer team exploded for five goals in the second stanza to earn a 5-0 triumph in their 2016 home opener over Dean College tonight at Edward Field. The Lynx improve to 2-0-1 on the season with the victory while the Bulldogs drop to 0-3.

Lesley had control for the majority of the game, outshooting Dean 14-1 in the first half but they were unable to find the back of the net as both teams went into the half with the score still knotted at zero. Midway through the second period, senior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) put the Lynx on the scoreboard and ignited the offense as she knocked a penalty kick past Dean goalkeeper Emma Morrison (Northport, N.Y.).

The Lynx added an insurance goal five minutes later. Sophomore forward Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) found classmate Xaelel Allen-Caballero (Henrietta, N.Y.) five yards out in front of the net to increase their lead to 2-0.

Following Lesley's second goal, Dean made a change in net as first year Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) came on to replace Morrison. Bessey welcomed the new keeper by scoring her third goal of the season on a feed from sophomore Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.) to put the Lynx on top, 3-0.

Junior Sarah Pochobradsky (Rotterdam, N.Y.) scored the final two goals for the hosts – her first two of the season. Along with Allen-Caballaro, Bessey found Pochobradsky in front of the net for the Lynx foruth goal in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later Morehead recorded her second assist on the night and found Pochobradsky for her second goal of the game.

Lesley returns to the pitch on Saturday September 10th when they travel to Babson College at 11:30 a.m. Dean will also be in action on Saturday when they travel to Leicester for a 11:00 a.m. tilt against Becker College.
