Strong Second Half Carries Women's Soccer to Season-Opening Win

QUINCY, Mass.- The Lesley University women's soccer team started their season on a high note as the Lynx earned a 2-0 victory on the road at Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference action to open the 2016 campaign. The Lynx start their season at 1-0-0 for the fifth straight season and have now won five consecutive matches over the Lions dating back to the 2012 season.

Despite out-shooting their hosts 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes to go along with a 3-0 edge in corner kick opportunities, the two teams went into halftime scoreless.

Midway through the second, Lesley got on the board to seize a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) finished off a low pass from classmate Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) for her first tally of the year.

The Lynx tacked on their second goal just seconds later as junior Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) notched her first marker of the fall, firing a long-distance attempt into the right side of the cage.

The guests added a third score in the 82nd minute to widen their advantage to 3-0 when Mitchell slotted her first goal of the season into the lower left corner after a thru-ball by fellow sophomore Rachel Buckley (San Diego, Calif.).

ENC goalkeeper Anastasia Swift (Morrisville, Vt.) racked up 10 saves between the pipes and rookie Griselda Minchaca (Whittier, Calif.) made her collegiate debut in goal with 14 minutes of action. Lynx junior stopper Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) made four saves in net for Lesley to earn the clean sheet.

The Lions finished with five shots in the contest while the Lynx managed 20 on the night.

Lesley will remain in non-conference action when they return to play on Saturday when they visit Simmons College at 11:00a.
