Bos, Essick, Turnbull Named 2016 Women's Soccer Captains

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Lesley University Women's Soccer head coach Paul Vasconcelos  announced today that rising seniors Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) and Julie Essick ( Boerne, Texas) and rising junior Samantha Turnbull (Holtsville, NY) will serve as captains for the 2016 season.

The decision was made from a process involving Lynx women's soccer alumni, the coaching staff, and a vote by the team players.

"We are very excited for all of three of them to serve as captains," said Vasconcelos. "Lindsey is a wonderful student-athlete who gets along with everyone and will be a great leader. Julie has done a lot of maturing in her time here at Lesley and really played well for us last season and Sam has progressed into one of our best defenders - she comes to compete and always leads by example."

Bos, a 2014 New England Collegiate Conference First Team honoree as a defender, earned the start in 14 out of the 22 matches she played in and posted 2 goals after switching to the attacking mid position.

Essick appeared in 20 matches, getting the starting nod in 13 while setting career-highs with six goals, seven assists, and 19 points. The junior was voted to the NECC All-Conference First Team for the first time in her career.

Turnbull, who made appearances in all 22 games with 19 starts on the season, was a steady presence among the Lynx backline that posted six shutouts last season and just one goal in conference play.

"These captains have a big task in front of them as we graduate a very talented group of seniors who will no doubt leave a void on our roster," Vasconcelos continued.  "We are going to be young, but should be very competitive next year."

Lesley will look to capture their fifth consecutive NECC title in 2016 after winning their fourth straight – and sixth in program history – this past fall with a 1-0 win over Elms College.

The Lynx 2016 season begins Thursday, September 1st with a non-conference game on the road at Eastern Nazarene College.
