Women's Soccer Glides Past Hawks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's soccer team improved to 13-5-0 and a perfect 8-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 6-1 win over Becker College in a cold, wet affair tonight at Edward Field. The loss drops the Hawks to 12-5-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the NECC. The Lynx used two goals in the first half before exploding for four in the second to claim extend their regular season conference win streak to 60 matches.

Lesley sophomore Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) opened the scoring for the Lynx in the 26th minute of play as she finished a cross from freshman Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) from the middle of the box. The goal was Rubin's third of the season while Mitchell was credited with her team-leading tenth assist of the year while extending her point streak to seven matches.

The Lynx nearly took a two goal advantage just one minute later when freshman Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) gathered the ball at the top of the box and unleashed a left-footed drive that sailed just over the Becker crossbar.

With just 40-seconds remaining in the first half, Lesley junior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead when she settled a lead pass from first year Rachel Buckley (San Diego, Calif.), dribbled in to the box and tucked a shot inside the far right post for the sixth of the season. The assist for Buckley was the first in her collegiate career.

Becker's best chance of the night came just six minutes after the opening whistle when sophomore Alison Mosdale (Marlborough, Conn.) raced behind the Lynx backline and had a one-on-one  with Lesley keeper Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.), but Donovan intercepted the play with a sliding save to keep the Hawks scoreless.

After the break Lynx freshman Emma Callender (Philomath, Ore.) scored her first of two goals on the night in the 54th minute on a feed from Essick. Essick placed a crossed just outside of the six-yard box to find a streaking Callender who one-timed a finish to put the Lynx up 3-0. Callender's second marker of the match came at 74:47 on an almost identical play, completing a cross from Essick.

Fellow rookie Xaelel Allen-Caballero (Henrietta, Calif.) also found the back of the net twice for the first two tallies of her career. Caballero's first goal at 67:08 bounced off a Becker defender and into the net before she used a right footed blast off a clear from senior Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) to beat Becker goalie Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) just 1:47 later.

Hawks sophomore Maria Colon (Wharton, N.J.) put the guests on the board at 78:17 when she corralled a bouncing ball at the top of the box and placed a right-footed shot just under the crossbar for her seventh of the season.

The Lynx will be back on Edward Field on Saturday when they celebrate Senior Day against Southern Vermont College. The Lynx will honor their seven seniors at 11:30a before kickoff at 1:00p. Becker will wrap up their regular season at home on Friday when they play host to Wheelock College at 6:30p.
